Building A Talent Pipeline of Young Executives of Color
|
|
During this summer I have had the distinct honor of speaking at two events specifically designed for young professionals of color. First was Chicago United’s “Making the Net-Work” Emerging Leader Reception with Billy Dexter, Partner and The Americas Regional Diversity Leader at Heidrick & Struggles’ Chicago office, and a 2009 Business Leader of Color. And I participated in the Fireside Chat segment of EY’s Chicago Black Executive Roundtable with Stephen Beard, President and Chief Executive Officer at Adtalem Global Education. The up-and-coming young professionals who attended both events were smart, purposeful and passionate about their career goals.
The feedback from both events deepened my resolve to ensure that our younger executives of color have a seat at the table where decisions are made. Their voice matters. They bring innovation and fresh insight, and of course expertise.
Under the guidance of our newly implemented Three-Year Strategic Plan, Chicago United refined its programming to include young professionals and launched the Emerging Leader Series specifically for early careerists. Even more, our Corporate Inclusion Institute is preparing to open enrollment for Cohort 6 in September. Both serve as opportunities provided by Chicago United so our young professionals of color can to take control of their careers and be prepared for the opportunity to advance through their organization’s talent pipeline.
Indeed, the future of a more equitable landscape lies in the work we do now to build a sustainable foundation of career advancement for our young professionals of color. If we don’t create a pipeline of these talented professionals who are able to fill our boards, C Suites, and Executive ranks, then we all have failed them and our mission. It is our job to make sure they have the access and the opportunity!
What are YOU doing to make sure this happens?
Best,
